Explaining the importance of an Assistant Director on a film set and talking about her “Assistant Director Workshop” which is running from 30th June to 3rd July during ZIFF) was Gabrielle Heberling from Germany. ZIFF presents this workshop as a response to industry expressions in the need to professionalize film production in the Bongo Movies Cinema. Also speaking to ZIFF and the press was Soren Christensen, Documentary Director of Pirate Fisherman in South Africa. This 30 minute documentary from the cold waters of South Africa’s West Coast tells the story of small-scale fishermen fighting for their rights after a new fisheries legislation made them criminals overnight.
The popular Zuku Lounge which is opened daily from 5 to 7pm has seen an increasing interest and attendance from filmmakers and others from the film industry. The Hakuna Matata band and the Afro Jazz band are expected to enthrall and entertain all attending the daily music concert at the Mambo Club tonight.
Another event to look out for this year at ZIFF is the much anticipated Bongo Movies Award sponsored by Zuku. Films in Competition are Laptop, Maduhu, Bikira Kidawa, C.I.D, Woman of Principles, Crush/Husuda, Room No. 13, Nakwenda kwa Mwanangu, Network, Mduniko, Fungate, Lover’s Island, Changu, Chips Kuku and Lost “Journey to Nowhere”.
Primary, Secondary and Vocational Students from Kenya and Tanzania participated in the Stop Motion Animation workshop today at DCMA learning about simplified scriptwriting, design and filmmaking techniques as part of the ZIFF Children’s Panorama.
