Isekere, a smart eleven year old schoolgirl is sickly with AIDS and the constant butt of her classmates’ jokes and cruelties. ‘She has AIDS, they think, she must be a prostitute.’ Even her teacher ostracizes her. At home her sick mother is more of a burden than a help. Yet a faithful friendship and a loving teacher help Isekere overcome these hardships. The film’s dramatic denouement, where her mother reveals the truth about the rape that infected her with AIDS, liberates Isekere from the guilt she had felt and brightens the road ahead.
